This newest series of cameraless Polaroids are made with varying exposures of colored light, additive/subtractive elements, and inconsistent interactions with exposure time. Creating a set of tactics learned from previous experiments, Meier pairs a semi-controlled approach with improvisation and chance. Each image’s unique final form is often conceptualized ahead of time as a drawing using colored pencils to plan exposure sequencing and color. Color blocks and shapes are manifested using techniques akin to a photogram. Working completely sightless, the artist gives up control of the outcomes by only using touch as a guide, a sense often undervalued in the making of a photograph. The final image is always a surprise, a delight.
